The conflict between Israel and Hamas has now entered its fourth week. President Joe Biden of the United States, who is aligned with Israel in this war, is urging Israeli President Benjamin Netanyahu to prioritize the protection of civilians in the Gaza Strip.
The US government has classified Hamas as a terrorist organization.
President Biden has called upon Mr. Netanyahu to allow independent organizations, such as the United Nations, to deliver essential supplies and provisions to Gaza, as many people there currently lack access to food and medical resources for the injured.[post_ads]
Professor Gadziro Gwekwerere, an impartial political expert, emphasizes the significance of dialogue between the two conflicting parties to attain peace.
It is believed that if peace talks do not take place, this war could potentially escalate and have wider implications throughout the Middle East.
"Given that other nations in the Middle East are providing support to these two factions based on differing religious affiliations, the conflict between Israel and Hamas has become deeply alarming," stated Professor Gwekwerere during an interview.[post_ads_2]
Regarding Zimbabwe's economy, Professor Gwekwerere cautioned that an increase in oil prices resulting from the ongoing war in the Middle East, where oil is sourced, may lead to a rise in food prices within the country.
"If the situation continues to deteriorate in the Middle East and the conflict between Israel and Hamas persists, it will inevitably result in an upsurge in oil prices, subsequently causing a significant spike in food prices in nations such as Zimbabwe, which are already grappling with a crisis following the global economic downturn," warned Professor Gwekwerere.
